Best hotel Rouen 2026

There are many websites and platforms for booking and comparing hotel prices (Expedia, Booking.com, Hotels.com, etc.). First, you can use a hotel comparison site, which will allow you to find the best room at the best price or in the best location based on your search criteria.

Alternatively, if you prefer a certain type of hotel (4-star, 5-star) or a hotel chain (Best Western, Novotel, Mercure, etc.), go directly to the chain’s or hotel’s website. This will allow you to pay the best possible price while avoiding the commissions charged by some platforms.

First, all my favorite neighborhoods are on the right bank of the Seine. Not that I don’t like some neighborhoods on the left bank (although…), but for an optimal stay in Rouen, the best neighborhoods are in or near the city center. That’s why I always recommend the city center (near the cathedral), the Old Market district, and the Saint-Marc district with its charming village atmosphere, especially on Sundays with its market and open bistros.

The train station area is a good alternative, although sometimes people wander onto the station square (noise disturbances). As for the City Hall district, it’s more suitable for quiet nights.

First of all, let’s say it right away: spending a night in Rouen is absolutely worth it, and for several reasons. This city boasts a magnificent architectural heritage and is brimming with charm and history. Its medieval city center is a true gem, with cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, and the famous Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Rouen is also known as the city of Joan of Arc, and you can visit the Place du Vieux-Marché where she was burned at the stake.

Furthermore, Rouen is a city of food and gastronomy. Proof: Rouen is the first and, so far, only French city to have joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of gastronomy in November 2021.

Since the end of the Covid pandemic, the city has been growing every day, with more and more restaurants and gourmet bistros. For those with a sweet tooth, Rouen boasts more than a dozen sweet specialties, some of which are quite unusual (like roulette!). You can find a list of these sweet specialties here.

Well, if there’s one thing you really want to avoid on vacation, it’s being in the wrong place at the wrong time. In Rouen, as elsewhere, simple safety precautions should be followed:

  • Leave your valuables at the hotel: your main bank card, passport, family jewelry… none of that belongs in your tourist bag. Most hotels offer a safe in the room; use it every time. I advise you to only go out with a secondary bank card and a little cash.
  • Avoid any outward signs of wealth: camera, smartphone, wad of bills… don’t be paranoid, but be cautious.
  • Be wary of organized distractions and people who approach you: the classic pickpocketing technique involves drawing your attention in one direction while an accomplice works on the other. If someone bumps into you, asks a persistent question, or offers you an object… stay alert and instinctively protect your bag. Again, don’t be paranoid, because in 90% of cases, people who approach you will do so with good intentions and no ulterior motives.
  • Opt for lively, well-lit streets at night: even though Rouen has decided to turn off some streetlights for energy-saving reasons, most of the main thoroughfares remain lit. Use them to return to your hotel.

Unfortunately, Rouen has some neighborhoods with varying degrees of reputation. As a Rouen resident, here’s my perspective on the matter. The neighborhoods I strongly advise against are the Hauts de Rouen (Les Sapins, Châtelet, and Lombardie) as well as Saint-Sever at night, as I already mentioned in this article. The Hauts de Rouen suffers from significant social problems and a high crime rate: it’s not a neighborhood for visitors. La Grand’Mare, to the east of the city, is also an area I advise you to avoid.

On the other hand, the historic center, the Old Market district, the Saint-Marc district, and the Cathedral area remain very pleasant and safe areas where I encourage you to stay and walk around without fear, even in the evening. My advice: stay in the neighborhoods I recommend in this article, and your stay in Rouen will be very pleasant.

That’s a real question! The key word is: planning ahead. The longer you wait to book your accommodation, the higher the prices will be and the more limited your choices. If you’re reading this article less than 300 days before the Armada, finding your ideal rental might already be difficult, but all is not lost. Here are a few of my tips:

  • Plan as far in advance as possible: the dates for the next Armada are set (from Thursday, June 17th to Sunday, June 27th, 2027). Book as soon as you can because hotels near the Seine and in the city center fill up very quickly.
  • Expand your search area: depending on your mode of transport (train, car, bus, etc.) and your departure point (Paris, Le Havre, Giverny, etc.), consider hotels located around the city center or on the outskirts of Rouen.
  • Opt for refundable bookings: you never know what might happen. A free cancellation option should be one of your search criteria.

f you want to be at the heart of the Armada festivities and feel the energy of this wonderful maritime festival, a hotel in the Cathedral Quarter or the Old Market area will be perfect for you. Conversely, if you’re looking for quiet nights, a hotel in the Town Hall Quarter or the St. Mark’s Quarter would be more suitable.

Of course, and thankfully so! Rouen offers several hotels to suit all budgets. For those looking for low prices, here is a list of budget hotels in my city:

  • Ibis Rouen Centre Rive Gauche Mermoz, 13 Rue de la Motte, 76100 Rouen, Ibis Rouen Centre Rive Gauche Mermoz – ALL
  • B&B HOTEL Rouen Centre, 20 Place De L’Eglise Saint Sever, 76100 Rouen, B&B HOTELS in Rouen Centre, in the city center and near the train station (avoid going out alone at night)
  • Hôtel d’Angleterre Rouen Centre Gare, 21 Quai Du Havre, 76000 Rouen, Hotel Rouen – Hotel d’Angleterre (its name is somewhat misleading as the SNCF train station is at least a 15-minute walk away).

Yes. For example, Airbnb offers apartments and rooms in private homes. Other sites like leboncoin (a famous French classifieds website) may offer short-term rentals.

Normandy is brimming with charming hotels that will captivate you, whether you’re seeking luxury, authenticity, or simplicity. For a romantic seaside getaway, I highly recommend the hotels in Honfleur, some of which offer breathtaking views of the Old Port.

If you prefer a historical atmosphere, the Pays d’Auge, with its manor houses and half-timbered homes, welcomes you to a picture-perfect setting. For food lovers, staying in Deauville or Bayeux will allow you to enjoy a rich culinary scene, with local restaurants showcasing Camembert cheese, Utah Beach oysters, and Norman cider.

Finally, if you’re visiting the D-Day landing beaches, I recommend staying in Bayeux rather than Caen: the city is quieter, better preserved, and its medieval center is well worth a visit after an emotionally charged day.

Bonus tip: check out Staycation for stays in luxury and charming accommodations with discounts ranging from 15% to 56%.

To book your hotel in Rouen and Normandy, three platforms stand out in my opinion. Expedia is my top recommendation: the site offers very attractive package deals that combine hotel and transportation, ideal if you’re coming from far away.

Booking.com is essential for its wide selection and very precise filters that allow you to quickly find the perfect place according to your budget and location.

Finally, Hotels.com appeals to frequent travelers thanks to its loyalty program: one free night for every ten nights booked, which can quickly become worthwhile if you like to explore the region several times. My advice: always compare prices on these three platforms before booking; the differences can sometimes be surprising for the same hotel.

The Saint-Sever district, located on the left bank of the Seine, is an attractive budget-friendly option for accommodation in Rouen, especially if you’re traveling by car, as parking is easier than in the city center. This bustling shopping district, centered around the Saint-Sever shopping center, offers several reasonably priced hotels. I’m thinking in particular of the B&B Hotel Rouen Centre and the Ibis Rouen Centre Rive Gauche Mermoz, two decent choices for those on a tight budget.

However, I advise against going out alone at night in certain streets of the district. The biggest advantage of Saint-Sever? Via the Guillaume Le Conquérant bridge or the Jeanne d’Arc bridge, you can reach the historic center in just a few minutes on foot. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the Cathedral, which is quite reasonable. If you’re looking for lunch or dinner in the area, don’t miss one of the Left Bank’s hidden gems: Kopitiam, a restaurant serving delicious Malaysian specialties. Be sure to make a reservation, as it’s a place that thrives on word-of-mouth.

Let’s be honest: there aren’t any campsites directly in Rouen. But don’t worry, the outskirts of the city and the Seine Valley have some great surprises in store. My personal favorite is Camping de la Seine in Jumièges, a 4-star campsite nestled on the riverbank, about 30 kilometers from Rouen. The setting is magnificent, the atmosphere is family-friendly, and if you’re looking for unusual experiences, their yurt with a jacuzzi is definitely worth a visit.

For those on a budget, Camping Les Nénuphars in Roumare, 15 km north of Rouen, offers quiet, green pitches in the Boucles de la Seine Regional Natural Park, with public transport access to the city center.

Finally, Camp’Eure in Pont-de-l’Arche (you’ll have noticed the clever play on words), 10 km south of Rouen, is a good option if you’re arriving by motorway from Paris.

My advice: whatever your destination, book in advance in July and August, as campsites near Rouen fill up very quickly.

For motorhome owners, the good news is that there’s a dedicated area right in Rouen. The parking and service area is located at the Rouen Marina (I’ve included the Google Maps link here), and it’s definitely the option I recommend first. Expect to pay around €14 per night, including water and electricity, with access to showers and toilets.

To reach the historic center, allow 45 minutes on foot along the banks of the Seine—a very pleasant walk—or 15 minutes by bike. My advice: arrive early, as the area is often full by late morning during peak season, and parking is limited to 6 nights.

If the Marina area is full, two interesting alternatives are available. The Montville area, 16 km north of Rouen, offers 16 pitches in the heart of the town, with all the necessary shops nearby. The Pont-de-l’Arche area, 30 minutes from Rouen, is ideally located on the banks of the Seine, in a beautiful setting. green and green, just a stone’s throw from the city centre of this pretty medieval town.
